The Country and Eastern gallery in Norwich houses part of a collection of architectural and ethnographic items and pictures from the Indian sub-continent and adjacent countries.
Most of the items are from the 19th and early 20th centuries and give an insight into provincial and rural life, in these countries, during this period. Also included are paintings and prints primarily by British artists who travelled in these regions during the late 18th and 19th centuries.
Permanently on display are architectural items and larger pieces such as furniture, figures and architectural and domestic items. Exhibitions based on other items from the collection are put on from time to time. |
